Microchipping for dogs is now compulsory in the whole of the UK. Microchipping itself involves the placement of a small chip the size of a grain of rice under the skin, using a needle slightly larger than a regular injection needle.

 

This chip is numbered, and anyone with a microchip scanner can read the number and find out who the rightful owner is by contacting one of the national data bases where this information is kept.
